To sell a book

Writing the book is the easy part, the challenge is to sell it.  Most books do not sell more than 500 copies.  They never get a second print.  So other than my 17 blog followers and 200+ linked in members buying a book I am going to fall short.  So how does one sell a book?  Tell me what you think.

  1. Maxine….you and I are in the same situation. Should you find the answer, please let me know. Take care.

  2. Hi Maxine –

Funny thing…I saw your last post and didn’t have anything to add at the moment, cause I found it sounded very small in focus (of course maybe that is the point and therefore I am about to complicate things).

This morning though, this came to mind – don’t think of it as selling a book, think of it as building a brand and a company. In today’s world, artistes, entertainers, writers, athletes…they are no longer doing just their craft – they are creating, developing and selling their brand and building a company, some of them even an empire. In my eyes, you are not a writer or someone who has written a book.

You are an entrepreneur and your business just happens to be you and what you directly produce.

    1. Leah, this is so true! Brands are us and we are our brands! Must admit that this is a little daunting for me. I wrote on the topic hat I love and now it is unfolding a different world for me. I am embracing and enjoying the journey.
