When I met with my friends yesterday, they asked,“How’s your job?” I grinned and said,“It’s great.” One of them turned to me and said, “You’re disgusting. How do you always love your jobs?” We all laughed.
He is right, I always love my jobs. Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t all great jobs, they weren’t always what I wanted to do or thought I should be doing, but at some level I enjoyed them.
Sometimes it was the task – seeing it completed or getting it right was enough for me to be satisfied, sometimes it was the challenge of getting over a situation or dealing with the multiple realities of the workplace.
At all my jobs, it was the people that intrigued me. The acts of working with, getting information from, learning about, understanding characteristics, having discussions or disagreements, and making friends, these were the things that I loved doing and made jobs great for me.
It is the possibility of humans that keep my curiosity alive, it makes me look forward to going to work and keeps me showing up every day.
What do you love about your job?
